Our Trip to the Park

A couple of Saturdays ago we took the kids to the park and started talking about what to do for their birthdays......Viv, being Dave's child has come up with the idea to have it at our house and charge people. The entrance fee for coming to the house will be children $2.00 and adults $6.00, I said do you really think people will want to pay for your party and give you gifts?

FYI, since the store closes on Jack's birthday we will have it the following weekend and no one will be charged, I promise.

This is what we look like now, we have until the 24th of April. This has been part of my life since 2001 and now I am stepping into new shoes. I still don't know what I am going to do but I am sure God will bring something into place soon. Jack got on to me the other day because I said that the store was like my baby. You can't really read the sign but it says that this location is closing but yet people read it daily and ask if we are hiring. Aren't Waco people the smartest?

This was a few weeks ago after all the good stuff was gone but before the sale started. This is the same shot as the first picture but the units are missing from the first.

And this is my team, the girls......Barbie, SheRa and Me......actually Corinne and Erin.

there are two others but they weren't there for picture time..... Petra and Jenny.

Don't know if you notice the little striped legs in the bathroom, I sat laughing at how hard my son worked to get a band aid. Jack first started out with a stool, the stool was too short so he put the bathroom scale on the stool. Then he took them both out of the bathroom and replaced them with a chair, standing on his tiptoes he still was too short so he grabbed a bigger chair. To make a long story short when he tried to stick the smaller chair on top of the bigger I thought maybe I should intervene instead of laughing and taking pictures.

I have had a very uneventful vacation this week so far but I can report that my Christmas tree is up and looks beautiful, and I have read 4 books in a week .....that's not me.

Today is my first day off this week and my kids still don't have costumes to wear tonight, granted they are Scooby and the Gang.

I was approached by a company to move to a store in Temple that does crazy volume, Christmas holiday would be insane and I would have even less free time than I already have. My question and what I have been praying about is, do I take it? It isn't the first time they have come to me but I can't imagine leaving my store right before the holiday. Please pray that I make the right decision.

I realize that I may not say enough things about what my hubby means to me. Dave is a strong person, he'd have to be to put up with my attitude. He is a provider, not lazy about work....he puts in his fair share of time. Dave is also very selfless when it comes to providing for us with not only needs but wants. I know that a day would not go by that Dave would not take care of us, it isn't in his nature to sit by and not work to provide for his family. In these tough times I am lucky to have someone like him for our kids. Not only does he support us and make sacrifices to make me happy, he acts as a jungle gym for our monkeys, he makes them laugh in only ways that he can. When I was pregnant with Jack every night when he came in if Viv woke up he would make her Mac & Cheese so I could sleep, I hadn't thought about that in a long time. I know from time to time he reads my blog so here is something that doesn't make him seem like a pansy but if it does too bad, only my family reads it. I love you

We are done at the doctor until the 15th of January. Jack is doing well, the stiff joints and legs are apparently normal and regular walking should resume in a few months. He still doesn't feel therapy is necessary although with my non medical degree I disagree with him. Jack is back to normal and even jumped off the bed the other night to celebrate being out of the cast....I wasn't home. Thank you for the prayers and thoughts for him over the last few months.

Things we have mastered in our first cast free week:

crawling (Sunday)

climbing-using only the leg he broke but not the other (Sunday)

couch walking (Tuesday with Grandpa)

scooting on his butt (last Wednesday)

standing at a slanted degree putting most weight on his hands on the table or couch infront of him (Monday)

We are going back to see the dr today at 4:30, Jack is starting to put a little weight on his left leg (again, he broke the right). He has also kept his left leg bent most of the week and is starting to stretch it out.

I hate to say this but I have enjoyed the last 5 and a half weeks, does that make me sound bad? As you know Jackson has never been a "Pansy Ass Mom ma's Boy" (Brandon, that is what I called you....not a Mom ma's boy) he goes more for Daddy and Grandpa but he has come around. I am enjoying this. I will miss the nights of watching him sleep right next to me, his little snore and the way his body jumps as he realizes that Arf has left his side. I will also miss the belly laugh as I fall asleep, him feeling the need to cuddle my head as I try to fall asleep and the, "Momma, I really, really love you". I know I can go to his bed for all those things but we have really bonded and I fear once the cast is off he will no longer feel the need for Mommy.
I will however will not miss his morning wake up call at 5 asking for food and Scooby Doo. All of this will soon be replaced by my favorite sounds of his little feet pounding the hardwood floor on his way to get me out of bed, two giggles coming from the bathtub and singing his 5 songs together as I put him to bed and surround him by all the stuffed animals in his room. I thought the last few weeks would be hell on earth but it has turned out to be God's blessing, I get a Pansy Ass Mom ma's Boy......if only for a few weeks.

The Trip to the Doctor

We took Jack in for his x-rays and as soon as Dave put him on the bed he said, "I'm gonna get a treat"
Dave said, "you are gonna get a treat"
J, "I am gonna get two treats"

Well, as soon as the nurses heard that they pulled out stickers and candy so he could have his treats.
As far as the appointment went he said everything looks good and we go back on the 20th for more x-rays. He also said that if all goes well we may get the cast off on that day. That would be sweet! Of course then I have to worry about the bunk bed all over again and chasing down my sweet little bossy boy.

We have made it through week one and have survived.....except for the pee smell. Jack goes in on Thursday for x-rays and to talk with Dr. NoPersonality, fun man to deal with a child. As far as outings we are taking little walks around the block in his wagon, Grandpa has him out on one now and he went to school to see his friends. I knew I needed to get him out when I heard he had asked to go to HEB. We came to Cleburne to visit Mimi and took a nice 3 hour nap, he seems to have lost his appetite but become more gassy. Wohoo!
Only 5 more weeks to go!!!!!

Well we made it through night 2 much better. Jack had a few visitors yesterday, Grandpa & Connie, Aunt Kara, Uncle Randy & Baby Caden followed up with a visit from Granny.

He is having a blast with the table that Aunt Kara brought, he can fit all his cars and they fly off with the greatest of ease.

I don't know who knows and who doesn't but last night around 7:30 we rushed Jack to the ER because he took a nose dive off the top bunk and broke his thigh bone. It could have been much worse but for now we are going to be living for the next six weeks with Tiny Man in a "body cast". The question might be how does he potty? He is wearing adult diapers but has portable urinal and a bed pan....the blanket is there to cover his dignity.

The staff that put his cast on said though he whined a little he was busy telling them that he went to Las Vegas and swam. He was also impressed that he had a heart monitor on his thumb that was red and flashy.

the new toy.......Pray this is more fun than the motorcycle. Dave has lost 5 friends since the beginning of the year and has decided he has too much to lose to continue with the bike.
Jack got his first official non Daddy haircut. He wasn't too sure about her but he was so good he got a big chocolate chip cookie with icing. I missed it.
And Ellen put this together for us......it is a pillow case dress.
We leave for Vegas on the 13th and I work pretty much every day til then. I have pics from 4th of July but haven't put them on the computer yet.

Let's start with a refresher, I am the mom that cried when I took my baby to Kindergarten and was consoled by a teacher.......I have moved on to the mom that has said, "Viv, why don't I pull up in the drive way (at school) and you get out and walk in alone." (I started saying this the 2nd week of school) It has become the habit of parking and walking hand-in-hand to the cafeteria where I kiss her and tell her to have a great day, I hate to admit it but I secretly like doing this, a few weeks ago this all changed! We still walk hand-in-hand reciting her spelling words of the week or about what is going on at school except on rainy days when I again start to encourage her to let me drop her off in front of the school so she can run in. I have been traveling some with work so I don't know what the system is for everyone but I guess she has become more independent while I was away because walking her in the other day she asked me to just open the door for her and she would walk in alone. I was stunned but I respected it and let her spread her wings, this week walking in she uttered the words that left me speechless....I know, I can become speechless.....she told me that she would walk up the sidewalk alone. I know I have to let her grow up but within seconds of me being OK she quickly took my hand and said, "maybe you could walk me just today" and I jumped at the chance. This morning we pulled up to the school and she was ready to walk that sidewalk alone and quickly turned for me to once again walk beside her and I teared up because I know it will soon end and she will take those steps without me.

To Pee or Not to Pee

I come once again with a question to mothers with little boys, should I let him pee outside? Is this something that will draw bad attention from the Historical District? Will we be the laughing stock of the neighborhood for years to come because we have a traveling red headed water sprinkler that is very sporadic? Granted it is outside and I don't have to clean it off the walls but this seems to be the only way at times he will do it out of a pull up. I got on to him one day and he responded with, "I a boy, I sup post to", and yes, he probably has seen his daddy do it although the daddy denied it! I have thought about just letting him run around the house naked on the bottom to make it easier on laundry but the boy likes to be completely dressed from top to bottom or it has to be his decision to be naked and it is full Monty.

Girls are much easier to potty train!!!!!!

The Birthday Party

The cake was awesome!
The friends were cute and polite. Even the little girl that invaded the neighbor's party bc they had food and we didn't yet.
The teeth were blue....and a few noses.
Others were concerned bc their mommy forgot to give them cake and they had to go in search of it.
Still, no cake here

Some ended the day in the ER bc they were too big to play like children.
Jack ended the day with 2 girlfriends.....this is Zoe.....he says hubba hubba.
Uncle Brandon even seemed to have a good birthday with children.

I feel as a shoe person that it is my duty to tell everyone, this isn't the way to wear sandals. Colored socks don't work either. This is a picture of the Coach store opening day in Cypress, the line wrapped around the back of the store and no I didn't stand in it.

I got home from Cypress yesterday afternoon, I have to say I have never been more tired. Tuesday morning I dropped the kids off at school and headed to Houston to 2 stores with 1500 cases of work to do to them. I wish I had taken pictures but there just wasn't time. I have to say it was so challenging but so worth it, I have fallen back in love with my job. The stores look beautiful and the mall is wonderful. The Nine West store did $21,000 and the Easy Spirit store did $4,500......told you I was too busy for pictures. If you get a chance to go to Cypress stop at the mall it is worth it.

We did Easter at our house today with Ellen. As you might notice Jack has some signs of abuse, he has started his own version of Fight Club.....we guess that is what it is since he doesn't talk about it and that is one rule to fight club.

All he will say of his injuries is that Mimi did it and we know that isn't true since he hasn't seen Mimi in over a month.......and that just isn't Mimi's style.

Boy drama

How can someone that loves musicals so much also love the look he gets from other children when he slaps them in the face? He looks innocent enough, maybe even a semi-happy kid. I am at a loss, how does someone that can be so sweet turn into a devil at school? We are out of our days of getting bite reports after filling at least 3-4 pages of victims and into the days of office visits. Any help here? Threats don't work, missing Scooby only bothers him a little, the boy hasn't gotten to watch "whospray" (Hairspray) in weeks......is this just a phase that will end at some point or the next 18 years of my life? Anyone with a boy give me some answers.

Glad to be home

We spent the weekend with David's family in Arkansas, his grandfather passed away early Monday morning. I am always blessed because the family I grew up with but I always seem to long to be with them after spending time with the Romans' side.
I have come to appriciate my family more and more. I love that to them we must seem boring. I love that I don't go years without seeing my brother and cousins. I even love the fact that Mim's has nothing better to do than sit around upset that we didn't think to call her that day. We all have it so easy and I wouldn't trade places with them ever.
I won't go into detail (unless you ask) but I pity a family that is ok being strangers. I have even threatened to write a book about David's family......it would be GOOD.
I am glad that Dave and I got to spend time with John Michael, he and Dave have so much in common but grew up thinking the other had it so much better. Keep them in your prayers, pray they continue to get to know each other. Having a brother is cool and they really need each other more than they may think.
Also, Dave is driving back alone for the funeral Wednesday and will be there until Friday, keep him in your prayers that God gives him a safe trip and an open heart while spending time with his father.

I am still waiting for the stone to pass and it sucks!

The Stone

I was in the ER yesterday for a kidney stone. If you've never had one be thankful........

I spent most of the day as Mimi must feeling the urge to go and dribbling. That is an annoying feeling. I walked down the mall to get water and was attacked by some version of cupid but instead of my heart it attacked my kidney, that was about 3:30. I called Karina to get her advice and while on the phone with her I went down hill....I was sick, sweating and according to Corinne I didn't look so good so I headed to Providence. I got to the ER a little after 4 and let Dave know where to find me (being that I was in Waco and he was in Temple). I called my angel, Erin to come and sit with me. She is my new Jewish Mother. (Thank you so much for taking care of me better than the nurses). I was finally put in a room around 4:55 and Dave got there about 5:15. I decided that it might be a good time to let Mom and Dad know what was going on so I asked Dave to call (he wanted to just send a message). I was taken for a CAT scan and told I had a kidney stone that was about 4mm. (I left out a few details) I was released about 7 something to go home to pass the dreaded stone and am still waiting.

Things you don't want to hear while in the hospital for kidney stone:
1. The person doing the catheter being told by another person how one is done.
2. Your eye shadow is really pretty, I don't care just stick in the IV.
3. You know the biggest reason you get a kidney stone is from COKE- that was from Dave
4. You need to be up and active to help pass this stone.
5. I had to get this strainer from the guy next door, he just passed his stone.

Erin-again, thank you so much for everything you did. I don't know how I can thank you enough.

This is Gabriella Romans or Gabbi for short, she is Dave's christmas present....I know it is early.
She was born August 24th.
And so far has been wonderful except for the slight gas problem.
This dog is lazy. I held her on her on her back like this for an hour and she did nothing but sleep.
I don't have pics of Jack with her yet but he loves her as well.

I spent my vacation painting and I textured the living room.....never ask the guy at Lowe's painting questions. I wish I could take credit for this corner but that has to go to Dave.

Then last night I couldn't wait any longer and had to put up the Christmas tree. We are used to having a huge tree but we just don't have the room for it so we downsized, I hope this one can handle all the ornaments.
I also am in the process of doing the bathroom, I have the paint on the walls but I am waiting for Dave to hang the mirror and new light.

A picture of the kids on Saturday morning. In the morning Jack doesn't care what he wears as long as he has a book to read, just be glad he is wearing clothes in this picture. Do you know the names of Snow White's Dwarfs? Dopey, Doc, Bashful, Grumpy, Sneezy, Happy and Tired.....at least in Jack's version.

I ate lunch with Vivian at her school today out in the garden, her kids meal came with a game so we decided to play.

We took Jack to be tested for foods today. In addition to the list from last year (peanuts, soy, trees, grass and English peas) we have added chicken, lettuce, bananas, root beer and watermelon. Yes, I said chicken, the only meat Jack will eat.

Potty Training

Jack-Jack has a new stance for going potty, he puts his foot on the potty as he sprays not only the wall but all around. He almost looks like he has discovered new land because he has one hand pulled behind his head. He poses almost like a Greek god, "The Jack".
Little boys are so frustrating to potty train, by this stage I didn't even have to buy pull-ups for Vivi because she was begging me to let her sleep in her panties and hardly ever had an accident, never at night. Jack will wear his underwear wet and not care.
We are also having trouble with him biting again, 3 days in a row he bit the same little girl. I went in to pick him up on Thursday to find that he had gotten in trouble again.
M- Jack, did you get in trouble today?
J- I no bite Delaney, Mommy, I push Sunny, can I have my sticker?

Boy in a Bubble

I have often thought of looking on EBay to see if they have a bubble for Jack to live in because everything breaks him out. Dave took Jack to the allergist and we now have to go back on Monday for a new round of food allergy testing oh and our favorite place the pharmacy for 8 new prescriptions....yay!
I can admit we don't limit his diet like we should because the boy loves to eat and you can only break his heart on food so many times. For dinner we went to Wing Stop, if you haven't been you need to go. Jack ate several strips with a dip of ketchup, ranch and honey mustard (all in one), when that wasn't enough his Parr side came out and he started taking shots of Ketchup, it was so gross. He must get that from his Connie because I really don't think even a Hickerson would do that, okay maybe some of them would.
Do they actually make a bubble for people with allergies to live in because if not they should.

This week has not been great as far as school, Dave called Tuesday to tell me Vivi gave someone "the finger", what bothers me the most is she did it correctly and on purpose. BTW, she picked it up at school not home if you seem confused.

I was off during the week for the first time in a long time so I decided I would go have lunch with Vivian. I stopped to pick up chicken nuggets and headed for the school. All the workers in the cafeteria told me how sweet she is and she actually ate all her lunch so, I decided that she might deserve an ice cream cone. When I got in line, there were 2 girls in front of me (Hispanic and African American).

Vivian is doing so well at school that we don't have to have the parent teacher conference, she is one of 6 in her class that is right where she should be.
Jack is doing even better on the potty training.
Week 5 we had lice and now we may have Chicken Pox, school is sooooo great.
We have finished our first fund raiser and sold enough for her to attend an ice cream party.

We started out by keeping Baby Caden on Saturday. The kids fought over who was going to hold him until I said I thought he would spit up and Jack very quickly moved far away from Caden.
We have experienced lice. I highly recommend that all parents should have the Rid metal comb on hand if this occurs in your home. The comb in the box doesn't do anything so you have to use your fingers but the metal comb, WONDERFUL.....available at Walgreens.
Vivi had to go to school and tell the boyfriend this week that her daddy said they could only be friends until she graduates medical school. He's such a big talker. I think she just told her daddy she did that.
We have started fundraisers. They should just mail the paperwork to the parents because at that age they don't understand they have to sell people stuff to win prizes from Dollar Tree.
When Connie told her she had pretty hair she responded that her mom said she didn't have bugs anymore.
